Ras Abu Soma Ras Abu Soma is the spit of land which bound the northern end from the bay from Safaga. Here are two dive sites, AbuSomaGardens and on the inside the “Ras” itself (illustrate). For both of them you need with the boat around 45 minutes. The “Ras” has a steep wall which unite in the south with a 25 m deep plateau. This place is nearly a copy from Small Giftun in Hurghada. Just here you have table corals instead of seafan corals. Sea-Conditions Here you are good protected from the weather but if you are planning a drift dive, then you will recognize soon the dramatic increase of the rough sea as soon as you drive around the corner to the take off point. Currents coming always from the north and they can be very strong at the outer wall. The berth himself is free from currents. Dive-Plan Here it is the best to make a drift dive. Start this drift dive around 400 m after the “Ras” but with a good distance in front of the sea sign. You will have an excellent visibility and a steep slope is going down into the deep blue. If you dive more and more to the south you will recognize a slope which is pass over to a plate au. After this you can recognize a kind of bay and on the southern side you will find a wonderful cave in 35 m. Around this cave there are soft corals and around thousand glass fishes, watched by a giant grouper. Until 4 m big table corals characterize the plateau which is above. You should dive from here to the shallow reef and follow him in around 4 – 5 m, where it is most beautiful, back to the berth. Marine-Life |
